How far we have gone when it comes to plagiarism?

The advent and development of technology give us freedom to express our idea easier than ever and people can easily see these ideas, these ideas can easily be used by people without the author’s permission. Websites like Wikipedia makes it so tempting to plagiarize and put less effort to student’s paper work, this easy access of knowledge is a treat not only to students’ grade but also to our ability to think and be creative, that is why we study business communication so we can develop our own style of writing and avoid plagiarism.

Students are sometimes not aware that they are plagiarizing, this when they take samples from other people’s work and put it on your paper without appropriate referencing, this can be avoided easily by putting quotation marks around it and cite the source of material. There is also this infamous “ctrl c or ctrl v” where students copy the direct article or part of it, which I find so foolish to do.

It is important that students follow the guidelines of their paper works and avoid plagiarism, there are number of consequences associated with plagiarism, aside from getting zero on your paper works but also can lead to academic dishonesty and cause devastating effect on your educational career, in the real world there are more bigger consequences on plagiarizing, this can involve:
-Legal consequences, an author can sue the plagiarist due to copyright issues
-Lost of credibility, this I believe the most important for if you lose your credibility nobody will trust you.
-Monetary Penalties, due to legal action or lawsuits and penalties
-Lost of job

So before you attempt to copy somebody’s work think about these consequences first, being lazy and dishonest cannot only destroy your credibility but also your entire future.
